Bystander Intervention Workshop

Bystander Intervention Workshop

The goal of this workshop is to create a culture where boundaries are understood and reinforced consistently amongst community members and to create a space where everybody feels prepared to respond to sexual harassment and problematic behaviour. This workshop is unique because it approaches this issue by exploring the negative cultural constructions of sexuality, and by providing participants with a deeper understanding of the roots of sexual bullying and harassment.

Through interactive discussions and activities, participants learn about not only the personal impacts of harassment, but also understand how this can lead to unhealthy community environments.  We explore factors that may prevent people from intervening, strategies to address harassment, and highlight the role of bystanders and allies. We will also discuss ways to support the person or people being affected by harassment.

Participants leave feeling prepared and more confident in addressing this issue in a way that empowers the person experiencing harassment, while providing teachable moments to those engaging in it.
